The International Social Security Association's (ISSA) Social Security Worldwide service consists of a collection of databases developed by the ISSA with the kind support of the United States Social Security Administration (SSA), the Inter-entreprise Occupational Insurance Fund (CIEPP) of Switzerland, the Social Insurance Bank of the Netherlands, the International Organisation of Pension Supervisors (IOPS), the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the International Labour Office (ILO) and the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS). The SSA contributed funding to develop an integrated electronic collection of social security information covering descriptions of programs, reforms and legislation. This funding made possible the development of the core databases which form the nucleus of this comprehensive information service. The Inter-entreprise Occupational Insurance Fund of Switzerland and the Social Insurance Bank of the Netherlands provided funding to develop an electronic database to extend the information to complementary pensions.
The descriptions of social security programs contained in the Scheme Description database are largely taken from the SSA's publication, Social Security Programs Throughout the World (SSPTW). SSPTW is the product of a cooperative effort between the SSA and the ISSA. The ISSA/IOPS/OECD Complementary and Private Pensions database is produced jointly by the ISSA, the IOPS and the OECD. Summaries of social security legislation, and a limited amount of full text of that legislation, are taken from the NATLEX database produced by the ILO's Standards Policy and Information Branch, and have been generously made available to the ISSA by the ILO. The majority of the full text of legislation has been made available to ISSA for inclusion in Social Security Worldwide by kind permission of ISSA member organizations. |
